The Cumberland Valley Rails-to-Trails Council has recently established an endowment fund. We are looking to secure the long term future of the trail by providing funds for future maintenance of the trail, museum, sculptures, and other amenities we provide along with funding future land purchases needed to extend the trail. Consider listing the Cumberland Valley Rail to Trails Endowment Fund in your will, estate plans, annual giving or retirement fund required minimum distribution.
View the trail map. Get directions to parking and access points. Trail enthusiasts can enjoy walking, jogging, bicycling, horseback riding and other non-motorized recreational uses. Users will appreciate a variety of settings as the trail traverses wooded areas and farmland between the historic towns of Shippensburg and Newville. A shaded picnic area in the village of Oakville provides a pleasant rest stop along the way.

Join us for First Fridays at Ship Station. Held on the first Friday of April thru October 2024. We have food trucks, a beer garden and live music. Proceeds benefit the Cumberland Valley Rails-to-Trails Council and the Cumberland Valley Railroad Museum. The Art Market sells locally made and hand crafted goods in the lawn adjacent to Ship Station. We support and encourage other events happening in town that benefit the entire community.
The Conrail Museum & Archive officially opened in 2023. A partnership between the Cumberland Valley Rail-to-Trails Council and the Conrail Historical Society gave the Conrail Museum & Archive a home at Shippensburg Station. The Museum will be open from sunrise to sunset, 24/7/365, the same hours as the Cumberland Valley Railroad Museum. The Archive is open by appointment only.
An abandoned boxcar sitting along the trail has become the Cumberland Valley Railroad Museum. The CVRM seeks to preserve and share the railroad heritage of the Cumberland Valley. Our museum is dedicated to serving the community, working in partnership with universities and museums, and providing a resource for future generations. The Museum is open from sunrise to sunset, 24/7/365.
The South Mountain Trolley Greenway initiative aims to study and develop a trail along the route of the former Dillsburg Branch of the Cumberland Valley Railroad. You have an amazing opportunity to help explore the development of a trail that could one day connect Mechanicsburg to Dillsburg, and we need your help!
CVRTC is an all-volunteer organization. You can support the trail by becoming a member, make a donation, volunteering or attending one of our fundraising events. Consider adopting a section of trail, come out to one of our work days or organizing a group work day. Donate your time if you have a special skill.
