The Cumberland Valley Rail Trail is complete from downtown Shippensburg at the edge of Shippensburg University to Greenhill Road past Newville, just short of 13 miles, a 2 mile section centered in the village of Greason, and one mile starting at Allen Road in Carlisle. The trail, which is wheelchair-accessible, has a crushed limestone surface except for the first mile from Shippensburg Station to the Shippensburg Township Park and 1/2 mile at the Newville trail head which are paved.

Trailheads with parking are available at Shippensburg Station, Shippensburg Township Park, Oakville, Newville, Springview Road, and Allen Road. Restrooms at Shippensburg Station, Shippensburg Township Park and Newville.

Shippensburg Station connects the business district of Shippensburg located two blocks away from the end of the trail and the campus of Shippensburg University.

Shippensburg Station is home to the Cumberland Valley Railroad Museum, the Conrail Museum, and the The Steam Plant Sculpture Path.

A stand alone section of trail centered on the village of Greason has unobstructed sweeping view of both North and South Mountain that define the Cumberland Valley. This section does NOT connect to the remaining Cumberland Valley Rail Trail. Parking is on Springview Road. Please do not park on Greason Rd to access the trail.

The Allen Road Mile is connected to the western terminus of Carlisle Borough’s West End Trail providing a connection to the campus of Dickinson College and downtown Carlisle.

Benches are available along the trail for your rest and relaxation. A series of informational signs are also located along the trail. Six signs tell the important story of Cumberland Valley’s role in the Civil War and seven tell the important story of agricultural heritage in the Cumberland Valley.  Several pieces of public sculpture are located along the trail at Shippensburg Station.
