This former railroad land is the PRIVATE PROPERTY of the Cumberland Valley Rails-to-Trails Council, Inc. (CVRTC).

Entry onto this property constitutes (1) user’s agreement to abide by posted rules and lawful oral instructions of CVRTC officials, and (2) user’s waiver of liability of CVRTC, its directors, officers, employees, agents, members, and authorized volunteers, for personal injury, death or property damage or loss directly or indirectly resulting from the use of this property.

User’s waiver of liability is in addition to landowner liability protections under the Pennsylvania Recreational Use of Land and Water Act and the Pennsylvania Rails-to-Trails Act.

This property is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, WITHOUT CHARGE, subject to the following restrictions:

  1. Hours of permitted use:  DAWN TO DUSK, DAILY.  The property is closed to the public at other times.
  2. No motorized vehicles (except for CVRTC maintenance vehicles) such as snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), etc. No farm equipment except by written permit from CVRTC or crossing at designated trail crossings.
  3. Any power-driven mobility device needed by people who qualify under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is allowed. Any device is required to be operated at the speed of pedestrian traffic.
  4. Class 1 eBikes are allowed (pedal-assist only, no throttle, maximum assisted speed of 20 mph, motor under 750w).
  5. Horses are not permitted on the finished stone dust trail. Horses must use the grass path except when merging at road crossings.
  6. No firearms or other weapons. No hunting, trapping, or shooting on, into over, across, or through this property.
  7. No alcoholic beverages (except by written permit from CVRTC) or illegal drugs.
  8. No littering or dumping.  Pack out your trash.
  9. Camping and fires are prohibited (except by written permit from CVRTC).
  10. Do not cut or take wood (except by written permit from CVRTC), destroy, damage, or remove flora, fauna, artifacts, rocks, railroad ballast, or other CVRTC property.
  11. Do not trespass or harass animals on adjacent properties.
  12. All bicyclists, regardless of age, including child passengers, must wear a certified helmet.
  13. Obey posted signs and traffic controls.
  14. Stop at all road crossings. Yield to vehicular traffic.
  15. Pedestrians have right of way over other users. Horseback riders must reduce their pace to a walk when approaching other users.
  16. Where practical, stay to the right, except to pass. Prior to passing, bicyclists must slow their pace and give audible warning (ring bell or say “passing on your left”).
  17. Dogs and other pets must be under immediate and positive control and on a leash not exceeding six (6) feet in length. Do not allow pets to defecate on the traveled portion of this property.
  18. Enter and exit this property at public road crossings or designated points only (except by written permit from CVRTC).
  19. No trespassing on sections of CVRTC property marked as closed.
  20. Erection of fences or gates, solicitation, posting of signs are prohibited (except by written permit from CVRTC).

WARNING: Violators of the above restrictions will be subject to criminal and/or civil prosecution for trespassing and other offenses. Violators will be held responsible for any damage and injury caused. CVRTC reserves the right to expel any user at any time for any reason excepting discrimination based on race, color, religious creed, ancestry, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, or disability. CVRTC is not responsible for theft of, or damage to, personal property.
